As a woodworker my designs have been evolving since I began my career in 1974. Inspiration for my work comes from classic traditional forms ranging from ancient Mayan to architectural deco infused with a touch of modernism. I try to harmonize form with function though at times the design, by its very nature, may take precedent. A fine balance is necessary to make any piece work well.
Construction of my work follows all the time-honored methods of joinery. Dado, rabbit, dovetail, and double dovetail joints are used. The final finish is one of hand rubbed oil or lacquer.
My studio, located in rural Warren County, NJ is a production shop with two employees. In addition to the numerous shows done each year, my pieces are sold in over sixty galleries across the country.
In May 1998 the book, "The Best of the Wood Boxes" was published featuring a box from my studio, the Deco Chest. In September 1999 the next book, "The Woodworker’s Visual Guide to Pricing Your Work" was published featuring six boxes from my studio, including the cover. One of my pieces was nominated as a finalist in the "Niche Awards" presented by the Rosen Agency at the Philadelphia Buyer’s Market in February 2000.
